Smart bin is a new generation of bins. It is well known that one of the main issues in the modern world is recycling and selective sorting. Japanese people put a lot of effort into recycling and sorting garbage. The most important materials that we need to sort are aluminium and plastic because they are 100% recyclable. Usually in Japan we throw cans and plastic bottles in one bin but actually mixing them is not helpful for the recycling process. That’s why we had the idea to make a bin with two differents compartments, one for plastic and one for aluminium, and to add an automatic sorting system. When the prototype will be finished smart bin will be able to send data and messages to the waste service and inform them about the quantity of cans or bottles. That way the waste service will know when the bin is almost full and they will be able to empty it before the situation when a person can’t throw away their garbage occurs.

The smart bin will allow people to actively participate in recycling and it will be very useful to recycling companies because aluminium and plastic will be sorted into two different compartments.
We are two students from an engineering school in mechatronics. The school\'s name is ISTY and we are in Japan for 6 months. We will finish our school in september 2019.
